Nordic Walking - more than just a walk in the park!

Updated: Aug 4, 2023

Nordic walking, a form of fitness walking that originated in Finland, has rapidly gained popularity around the world due to its remarkable benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Combining the simplicity of walking with the use of specially designed poles, Nordic walking engages more muscle groups than traditional walking, making it a highly effective low-impact workout suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

What are the major benefits of Nordic Walking?

Nordic Walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking and using poles it adds two major benefits

  • The use of poles means the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs

  • The poles help to propel you along making you work harder than usual yet the support given by the poles makes it feel easier.

Nordic walking is a specific fitness technique different to hill walking, trekking and trail running and is incredibly beneficial.

The poles are not planted in front but in a specific way that increases the use of the upper body.
